The Carmel Padres volleyball team travels to King City for a Thursday, Sept. 10, non-league match against an unbeaten Mustangs squad in the Mustang gym.
Carmel enters the matchup after sweeping Stevenson of Pebble Beach 3-0 in a non-conference match on Tuesday, Sept. 8, according to MaxPreps.
The Mustangs present a stiffer test. King City is unbeaten in non-league play and rolled through Valley Christian Academy of Santa Maria in three straight games last week, the King City Rustler reported Wednesday, Sept. 9.
Avery Munoz powered the Mustangs' attack against Valley Christian with 16 kills and eight digs. Bri Zamora and Ella Rubbo each added five kills and two blocks. On the defensive end, Jocelyn Jacquez recorded 13 digs and three aces. Setters Taelyn Munoz and Mily Paramo combined for 32 assists and five aces.
King City also played at Santa Catalina in Monterey on Wednesday, Sept. 9. The result of that match was not available at publication time.
The Padres will look to carry their early-season form into a hostile gym Thursday night against a King City roster that has shown balance across all positions.
