Palma's Carolina Lorca caught two touchdown passes and picked off a Carmel throw Wednesday, powering a 12-6 win in PCAL girls flag football.

The game, played Sept. 23, featured a Palma defense that forced four interceptions and recorded seven sacks. Jill Scherpinski threw both scoring strikes for the Chieftains, connecting with Lorca each time.

Addy Jefferson led the pass rush with seven sacks.

Palma's secondary was just as disruptive. Emily Veliz grabbed two interceptions, Natalia Aguon added 80 receiving yards and a pick, and Ave Greco recorded an interception of her own.

Carmel had opened the season 3-0 after beating Monterey 13-7 on Thursday, Sept. 17, according to MaxPreps. The Padres' record entering Wednesday's game could not be confirmed because the result of a scheduled Sept. 21 game against Salinas was not available.

Palma, based in Salinas, dropped to 6-2 with a 34-12 loss to Monterey on Monday, Sept. 21, according to MaxPreps. The win over Carmel gives the Chieftains a bounce-back result after the Monterey loss.

Monterey County sports columnist John Devine reported the individual stat lines on X after the game. The score was confirmed by the Monterey Bay Prep Report.

Palma travels to Soledad on Saturday, Sept. 26, at 10 a.m. Carmel visits Alisal in Salinas on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 5:45 p.m.
