A voting-themed "No Kings" rally is planned for Saturday, Oct. 17, at Window on the Bay in Monterey, the latest in a series of nationwide demonstrations that began in June 2025.

The rally runs from 2 to 4 p.m. at 717 Del Monte Ave., the Monterey Herald reported. The event follows a Monterey No Kings rally held in June, where protesters carried signs denouncing tyranny and calling for unity, according to the Herald.

Local grassroots groups have organized Peninsula-area No Kings events before. Indivisible Monterey and 50501 Monterey helped host earlier rallies, the Herald reported in March. At the time, organizers across the country expected more than 3,000 rallies with millions of people attending, according to the Herald.

Saturday's event carries a voting theme, though the Herald did not detail what specific activities or programming the rally will include.

Movement background

The No Kings movement held its first protest on June 14, 2025, according to Ms. magazine. The national organization has since partnered with nearly 300 groups, including the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), the League of Women Voters and Planned Parenthood Action Fund.

A second No Kings rally on Oct. 18, 2025, drew 7 million participants across more than 2,700 events in all 50 states, according to the ACLU as reported by Ms. magazine. A third round followed on March 28, 2026.

Organizers have emphasized that No Kings events are peaceful and nonviolent. Both the June 2025 and October 2025 rallies remained largely peaceful with no major widely reported outbreaks of violence, according to Ms. magazine.

Saturday's rally at Window on the Bay, 717 Del Monte Ave., begins at 2 p.m.
