MoonCap Wellness Center brings a 400-square-foot Himalayan salt room and locally made mushroom tinctures to Old Monterey.
The wellness and retail shop celebrates its grand opening Friday, Oct. 9, from 3 to 7 p.m. at 486 Washington St., according to an Old Monterey Business Association event listing. The public is invited to tour the space and meet the center's vendors and practitioners.
The salt room, the center's main draw, is equipped with full-body red light therapy. Sessions run 30 minutes. The space also includes private suites where practitioners can hold appointments and room for classes, according to the event listing.
Kyle Yedlicka, a mycologist who founded MoonCap Medicinals in 2022, is behind the new venture. A former competitive hockey player, Yedlicka suffered multiple traumatic brain injuries, eight reconstructive surgeries and fractured vertebrae over the course of his career, according to the company's website. He turned to medicinal mushrooms after the injuries left him with daily brain pain and migraines that blurred his vision.
"Lion's Mane saved my brain and healed me in ways I could never have imagined," Yedlicka wrote on the company's website.
That experience led Yedlicka to launch MoonCap Medicinals, which produces four dual-extract mushroom tinctures: Lion's Mane, Reishi, Cordyceps and Turkey Tail. Each sells for $44.99. All four are grown, dual-extracted and bottled in Monterey County, according to a Carmel Valley Farmers Market vendor spotlight.
The wellness center stocks the full tincture line alongside candles, skincare products, crystals and plants. The Old Monterey listing describes the location as both a retail shop and a community space.
Yedlicka has sold MoonCap Medicinals products at area farmers markets, including in Carmel Valley. The Washington Street location gives the brand a permanent home in Old Monterey's commercial district.
