Head brewer Cody Leano has released two limited beers to mark Peter B's Brewpub's 30th anniversary in downtown Monterey.

The anniversary releases are a peach-infused version of the brewery's West Coast IPA, Legends of Laguna, and a dessert sour. Both are available now at the brewpub inside the Portola Hotel & Spa at Two Portola Plaza.

The peach Legends of Laguna adds stonefruit to the existing IPA recipe. Monterey County NOW reviewer Dave Faries described the result as carrying a fresh, almost floral aroma with notes of chaff and honey, tinged with a bitter trace. The original Legends of Laguna, a dry-hopped IPA with a resinous finish, remains on the menu.

The dessert sour, Faries wrote in his Sept. 10 review, offers a suggestion of butterscotch on the nose, a brisk sour character and a soft undertone of cream and vanilla.

Peter B's opened in 1996 as Monterey's original craft brewery, according to the Portola Hotel. The hotel says the operation began brewing for Carmel Valley Brewing Company before acquiring its own equipment and launching on-site production in 2000. The brewery expanded distribution across the Monterey Peninsula in 2011 and added capacity in 2012.

Leano joined Peter B's in March after stints at Alvarado Street Brewery and Hops and Fog Brewing Company in Pacific Grove, according to a Monterey County NOW profile published April 14. The Portola Hotel described him as bringing eight years of craft beer expertise. He succeeded Natalie Mika, who had served as head brewer since 2019.

"I thought it was a great opportunity," Leano told Monterey County NOW in April. "The first craft brewery in Monterey."

Since arriving, Leano has brewed an amber ale, a kolsch and a West Coast IPA, according to the April profile. In July, he and apprentice Crystal Castro partnered with the Surfrider Foundation Monterey Chapter on Blue Water IPA, a 6.8% ABV hazy Mosaic IPA that donated $1 per pint to the nonprofit. That tap launch drew more than 100 attendees, according to the Surfrider Foundation Monterey Chapter.

The two anniversary beers arrive about a year after Peter B's completed a $2 million renovation and reopened on June 26, 2025, according to Edible Monterey Bay. The overhaul added wood, stone and copper accents inspired by Monterey Bay.

Next up is an Oktoberfest celebration running Saturday, Sept. 19 through Sunday, Oct. 4, featuring German-inspired food and an exclusive Oktoberfest beer, according to the Portola Hotel website. Peter B's is open Thursday through Tuesday, 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., with Sunday doors opening at 9:30 a.m. for football breakfast. The brewpub is closed Wednesdays.
