Monterey police arrested a massage therapist on suspicion of sexually assaulting a woman during a massage at a downtown spa on Sunday, Oct. 25.

Officers responded to GG's Spa and Salon in the 300 block of Calle Principal at 12:34 p.m. after the woman called police, according to a Monterey Police Department news release. The woman reported that an employee sexually assaulted her during a massage, then she confronted the employee and called police.

The 46-year-old Monterey man left the business before officers arrived.

About an hour later, at 1:40 p.m., officers located the man in the 200 block of Dela Vina Avenue and arrested him without incident, according to the release. He was booked into the Monterey County Jail on suspicion of sexual penetration under California Penal Code Section 289(d)(4). His bail was set at $100,000.

The case remains under active investigation, the department said. No response from the suspect or legal representation on his behalf appears in public records as of publication.

In a separate case earlier this year, Monterey police arrested a man on May 5 on suspicion of sexual battery at Intuitive Touch, an unlicensed massage business in the 200 block of Foam Street, according to a separate MPD news release. That suspect posted $30,000 bail. As of the department's May 8 news release, that investigation was also active.
